ALBERTO BECATTINI nasce a Firenze il 27/9/1955.

Nel 1981 si laurea in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Inglese) e dal 1983 insegna Inglese nei Licei.

Si occupa di fumetti da sempre. Collezionista, si specializza nei personaggi Disney e nei fumetti americani in generale. Si occupa anche di animazione, illustrazione americana e di pin-up art, nonché dei rapporti tra fumetto, cinema e letteratura.

La sua prima collaborazione ufficiale nel campo dei fumetti risale al 1974, quando contribuisce alla parte cronologica del volume Introduzione a Paperino (Firenze, G. C. Sansoni).

Nel 1978, a Firenze, fonda con altri appassionati la fanzine Funnies, dedicata a Carl Barks (il creatore di Zio Paperone) e ai fumetti americani.

Dal 1978 scrive articoli per varie pubblicazioni italiane amatoriali e da edicola, tra le quali Image, Diva, Exploit Comics, Image, Nostalgia Comics, Fumetto, Il Nerbiniano, Glamour, All-American Comics, Horror, Fumetti d’Italia, If, Fumo di China.

Dal 1986 è senior editor di The Who's Who of American Comic Books, vero e proprio “indice” degli albi a fumetti americani ideato da Jerry Bails. (www.bailsprojects.com)

Nel 1988-90 traduce alcune storie Disney italiane per gli albi americani pubblicati dalla Gladstone Publishing. Per la stessa editrice redige anche articoli su personaggi ed autori disneyani.

Nel 1989 partecipa al quiz televisivo Lascia o Raddoppia (RAI 1, conduttore Bruno Gambarotta) presentandosi per l'argomento “Walt Disney”, e ne esce vittorioso dopo sei trasmissioni.

Dal 1990 al 2002 collabora con l’Editrice Comic Art di Roma. Scrive articoli per le riviste da edicola All American Comics, Comic Art, Horror e coordina parte dei volumi della collana Grandi Capolavori Disney, oltre a curare le traduzioni dei volumi cronologici dedicati a Carl Barks.

Dal 1990 al 2004 è nel direttivo di Immagine, associazione culturale che organizza le mostre Lucca Comics prima, ed Expocartoon (Roma) dopo, entrambe dedicate a fumetti e disegni animati.

Dal 1992 collabora con The Walt Disney Company – Italia. Redige articoli, saggi e cronologie per le collane da edicola Le Grandi Parodie Disney (anche versione cartonata da libreria), Zio Paperone, I Maestri Disney, Tesori Disney, Disney Anni d’Oro e per vari one-shot.

Ha scritto articoli anche per le riviste USA Comic Book Artist, Alter Ego e Comic Book Marketplace.

Come indicizzatore, contribuisce al Grand Comics Database (Nel 2009 contribuisce al DVD dedicato al primo lungometraggio animato italiano, La Rosa di Bagdad.

ALBERTO BECATTINI was born in Florence on 9/27/1955.

He got his degree in Foreign Languages in 1981. He has been a high school teacher of English since 1983.

Comics have always been one of his main interests, first as a collector, then as a researcher. He has specialized in Disney characters and American comics in general, but he also writes about American animation, illustration and pin-up art, as well as about the relationship between comics, cinema and literature.

His first official contribution to a comic work dates back to 1974, when he helped with the chronology included in the book Introduzione a Paperino (Florence, G. C. Sansoni).

In 1978, in Florence, he founded, together with other enthusiasts, the fanzine Funnies, devoted to Carl Barks and American comics.

Since 1978, he has been writing articles and essays for various Italian publications about comics, including Image, Diva, Exploit Comics, Il Fumetto, Il Nerbiniano, Glamour, All-American Comics, Horror, Fumetti d'Italia, If, Fumo di China.

Since 1986, he has been a Senior Editor of Jerry Bails’ Who’s Who of American Comic Books. (www.bailsprojects.com)

In 1988-90, he translated a few Italian Disney stories for Gladstone

Publishing’s comic books. He also wrote several articles for the same publisher.

In 1989, he took part in the Lascia o Raddoppia TV quiz (broadcast on Italy's RAI 1 channel), answering questions on “Walt Disney comics”. He quit as a winner after six weeks.

From 1990-2002, he contributed to publications issued by Comic Art in Rome. He wrote articles for such newsstand magazines as All American Comics, Comic Art, Horror, edited several books in the Disney Masterpieces collection, and translated stories for the Carl Barks chronological book series.

From 1990-2004, he was a member of Immagine, which organized the Italian conventions in Lucca (Lucca Comics) and Rome (Expocartoon), both devoted to comics and animated cartoons.

Since 1992, he has been a free-lance essayist and consultant for The Walt Disney Company – Italy. He has contributed articles and chronologies to such newsstand series as Le Grandi Parodie Disney (also bookshop hardback version), Zio Paperone, I Maestri Disney, Tesori Disney, Disney Anni d’Oro, as well as for several special issues.

He has contributed articles to such US magazines as Comic Book Artist, Alter Ego, and Comic Book Marketplace.

As an indexer, he has also contributed to the Grand Comics Database (www.comics.org) and to the I.N.D.U.C.K.S. project (www.coa.inducks.org).

In 2009 he contributed to the DVD edition of the first Italian animated feature, La Rosa di Bagdad.
